Bridal Hair

My friend Amanda got married this fall and was planning on doing her hair herself.  That was until I insisted that I style her hair for her.
She is a very creative person but also classic and "no fuss" when it comes to her hair, so I didn't want to create a style that wasn't her.  When deciding on a look for your wedding (or any event) you want something that compliments you and your personality, not distract from it.  We used Kate Winslet's recent St. John campaign for our inspiration(Kate Winslet for St. John 2011).

I was a quoted a while back in the New York Times about my opinion on the growing trend of men with stubble.  Here's a link to the article.  Pretty fun stuff.

blonde ambition

I was at this end of summer BBQ in the East Village when I met this temptress.  The second she heard I was a hairstylist she wanted to know what I would do to her hair.  To be quite honest, I fell short of ideas.  Here she has this super thick one length-ish A-line bob, which by the sound of it seems pretty dated.  BUT with the wave she's put into it paired with her chic urban fashionista style and sultry personality she makes the hair work with her in a big way.  Ok I'm maybe being a tad dramatic but she's taken a hairstyle that wouldn't work on every girl and made it work for her and her personal style.  Which goes to show that hair trends may come and go, but when it comes down to it, all that matters is how you make the hair work for you, instead of getting a haircut because its "in".

My dear friend Sena Yang is a very up and coming fashion designer based here in New York.   She designs incredibly modern and flatteringly chic clothing for women.  Every one of her designs is insanely sexy. I have had the honor of styling hair for numerous shoots for some of her collections.  Here is an ad and a few photo's from her Holiday 2010 shoot that I worked on.  I went for a very soft natural look as to not take away from the model's natural texture.  The silhouette of Sena's work is very streamlined and I wanted the softness of the hair to somewhat contrast that, but compliment it at the same time.  She has been getting amazing press and will no doubt be receiving more.

SENA's ad that was just featured in Dirty Durty Diary a new "Bi-Annual Fashion, Film, Art & Literary print magazine".

Fashion Week

Recently it was New York Fashion Week.  Being strictly more a behind the chair stylist I don't participate in a lot of shows. I have, however, been able work at least a few every season since I've been doing hair in New York.  They are a lot of fun and can also be very stressful.  This season I did Cynthia Rowley (Key Hair Bok Hee), G-Star (Key Hair Raphael Salley) and Simon Spurr (Key Hair Antonio Prieto).

Taking a moment to pose for a photo with Katie Chang backstage.  Katie has an amazing Men's Grooming blog for the NYTime's T Magazine.  She also own's one of my favorite shop's to buy  product's.  It's an amazing apothecary in Williamsburg called Mio Mia.  You should definitely check it out.  Katie has a serious passion for what she does and works hard to find only the finest product lines to carry, creating a superbly eclectic collection of skin care products, fragrances, cosmetics or anything else to make you beautiful.

Fashion's Night Out

This year I had the joy of attending Fashion's Night Out with my boss and his lovely wife.  It was quite the scene and I'm glad I went, the people watching was the best part by far.  There weren't many opportunities to stop people and take their photo's but I appreciate these girl's simple and natural approach.  Both of them probably did not spend much time on their hair, but that's why it works so well.  When hair looks over done or over styled it tends to take away from your over all look.  This is definitely a trend we will be seeing more of this fall and winter.
